Android distribution numbers for 2021 shows 24.2% devices running Android 11, 26.5% devices still on Android 10

Android 12 stable version was released by Google last month at the launch of its flagship phones – Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. While we still don’t have the distribution numbers for Android 12, Google has released the distribution numbers for Android 11 which reveals interesting information.

According to the distribution numbers released in Android Studio, Android 11 (Android R) is available on 24.2% of devices, while Android 10 is available on 26.5% of devices. To recall, Android 10 (Android Q) was released in 2019 and Android 11 was released in 2020. Yet, Android 10 has more adoption compared to Android 11 that was last year.

Further, the data shows that Android Oreo is available on 13.7% of devices, Android Nougat in 6.3% of devices, Android Marshmallow in 5.1% of devices, Android Lollipop in 3.9% of devices, Android KitKat in 1.4% of devices, Android Jelly Bean in just 0.6% of devices.

While the reason for the slower adoption of Android 11 in devices is not known, it will be interesting to see the distribution numbers for Android 12 when the data becomes available. Will it be better than Android 11? We should know that in the coming months.
