Legion gaming phone business has shut down, confirms Lenovo

Lenovo has confirmed that it has shut down its Legion gaming phone business, as a part of business transformation and gaming portfolio consolidation. The company introduced its first Legion Pro gaming phone to take on the ASUS ROG Phone 3 back in 2020.

In 2021, the company introduced the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2, and the Legion Y70 was introduced last year. Even the Black Shark is struggling to release its next Black Shark 6 phone, which should have been out by now. According to reports, the company is laying off hundreds of workers at its facility.

Lu Weibing, the general manager of Redmi, recently said that there would be no need for a separate gaming phone in 2023 since the flagships are already powerful.

However, ASUS is going strong, with the ROG Phone 7 series scheduled to launch on April 13th globally, including India.

In a statement to Android authority, Lenovo Spokesperson said:

Lenovo is discontinuing its Android-based Legion mobile gaming phones as part of a wider business transformation and gaming portfolio consolidation. As a leader in gaming devices and solutions, Lenovo is committed to advancing the gaming category across form factors, as well as focusing on where it can bring the most value to the global gaming community.
