Meta has rolled out new features to help you discover and enjoy short videos that fit your interests and preferences on Facebook. You can also use the new ‘Creative Expression’ tools to make your own 90-second reels on the platform, which Meta debuted earlier this year.
Discovering Relevant Reels Made Easier on Facebook
As Reels continue to gain popularity on Facebook, Meta has introduced new features to help you discover short-form video content that aligns with your interests.
Facebook has made it easier for you to discover Reels across the app with recent updates to how they’re surfaced in Facebook Watch. Reels have been added to the main navigation at the top of Facebook Watch, giving you quick access to creators, trends, and content that match your interests.
Additionally, while watching videos on Facebook, you can now seamlessly scroll between Reels and long-form videos.
Personalizing Your Reels on Facebook
Facebook wants to give you more control over the Reels you see on the app. To help personalize your experience, they’ve introduced the following features:
Show More, Show Less
By tapping the three-dot menu at the bottom of the video player, you can now inform the types of Reels you’ll see more or less of. This will help you explore what you enjoy now, while also helping you discover interests, creators, and communities you’ll love going forward.
The Show More option will temporarily increase a Reel’s ranking score and for Reels like it, while the Show Less option will temporarily decrease its ranking score. Your direct feedback will help make Reels ranking smarter and more attuned to your preferences.
Contextual Labels
In addition, Facebook has also launched a new feature on the Reels video player that provides contextual labels, which aim to clarify why you are being shown particular Reels. For example, if a friend of yours liked it, you’ll see a label explaining why it’s on your feed.
This feature will help you understand the relevance of the Reels you’re seeing and give you more insight into your personalized Reels feed.
On the announcement, Facebook shared:
Facebook helps you to discover people, content, and experiences that suit your interests and help you grow and explore. Reels are also getting more social with people re-sharing reels across our apps more than 2 billion times every day, doubling in the last six months. We’re introducing new personalization controls for Reels that let you customize what you want to see more or less of, so the videos you see are more relevant.
