Capgemini establishes 6G research lab in Gurugram

Capgemini, a multinational IT and consulting firm, has announced the establishment of a 6G research lab in Gurugram, India. The new lab will expand on this first work by creating and exhibiting the extensive capabilities and new use-case ideas of 6G.

This lab is the result of an innovative joint research effort announced in 2022 with King’s College London. The lab will build advanced test beds and simulators using high-performance compute infrastructure and advanced AI algorithms to investigate use cases for next-generation wireless networks, 6G ideation, and the development of energy-saving solutions.

Furthermore, it should assess the performance of upcoming 6G capabilities such as mesh networks, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), and non-terrestrial networks created expressly for wireless communications.

Regarding the new facility, Shamik Mishra, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer “Connected Futures” at Capgemini said,

The 6G lab will enable us to prototype, simulate, and test solutions, leveraging next-generation connectivity and silicon technologies along with advanced AI to address the wireless communication challenges presented by 6G.

As we take a lead on leveraging the potential of this emerging technology, we will also contribute to harmonizing efforts for 6G technology across the industry. An ecosystem for collaboration and knowledge sharing among enterprises and academia will be key to realize numerous opportunities and applications for the future.
