Flipkart has introduced an Exchange Program to enable customers to exchange their non-functional appliances, smartphones, and feature phones, hand-in-hand exchange of upgraded products.
Flipkart Exchange Program for Non-Functional Smartphones and Appliances
This Exchange Program aims to tackle the challenges faced by customers when disposing of defunct appliances while also reducing electronic waste (e-waste). By partnering with authorized vendors, Flipkart ensures responsible disposal of e-waste through refurbishment, recycling, or proper disposal.
The firm emphasized the need for a circular approach in the sector, considering India’s status as the third-largest e-waste generator worldwide. The program offers attractive buyback offers, doorstep pick-up of non-working appliances, and hand-in-hand exchanges of upgraded products.
Additionally, the program takes measures to erase data from mobile phones, smartphones, feature phones, and laptops before they are refurbished or disposed of. With its efficient tech-driven processes and extensive logistics network, Flipkart ensures a hassle-free experience for customers, enabling the exchange in a single visit.
This program simplifies the process of discarding non-functional appliances and offers customers an exchange value that can be used to purchase upgraded products.
Regarding the matter, Ashutosh Singh Chandel, Senior Director and Business Head, Re-Commerce at Flipkart, said,
India is the third largest e-waste generator in the world (with 3.2 million tonnes in 2019); however, only 10 percent of the waste is collected for recycling, as per MEITY policy paper (source) which necessitates the shift to a more circular approach for the sector.
With the new exchange program for non-functional appliances, we want to provide our customers with an innovative, sustainable, and convenient solution to discard unused electronic and large appliances and upgrade to a product they aspire to have. Apart from benefitting our valued customers, this program will act as a catalyst to transition to a circular economy and reduce the impact on the environment.
