AMD, the semiconductor giant, revealed its plan for a significant investment of approximately $400 million (Rs. 3300 crore approx.) in India over the next five years. The investment aims to expand research, development, and engineering operations in the country.
As a part of this plan, AMD will construct a new campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka, which will house the company’s largest design center in the world.
Creating Opportunities and Innovations
The new AMD campus, expected to open before the end of 2023, will boast extensive lab space and cutting-edge collaboration tools, fostering a conducive environment for teamwork and innovation. This move aligns with the Government of India’s policy initiatives targeted at boosting the semiconductor industry.
Expanding Engineering Roles
With this investment, AMD plans to add approximately 3,000 new engineering positions by the end of 2028. This will lead to the establishment of the largest AMD design center in India. The company’s presence will be further strengthened with a total of 10 locations across cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
SemiconIndia 2023 Conference
AMD made this announcement at the SemiconIndia conference, held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The conference, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aimed to attract investments to India’s semiconductor industry and position the country as a competitive manufacturing hub, rivaling established players like Taiwan and China. Top chipmakers such as Foxconn, Micron, and IBM were in attendance.
