Neïl Rahmouni, X user (formerly Twitter), shared a screenshot revealing Google Messages’ intention to include support for satellite connectivity. Notably, user interfaces have been added to enable conversations and SOS messages using satellite links.
Satellite Communication APIs revealed in Android 14
Recent observations have revealed the integration of Satellite Communication APIs into Android 14. However, these APIs are currently marked as “hidden,” making them inaccessible to third-party applications.
A “demo mode” for satellite services is also anticipated. This service will facilitate the transmission of SOS messages and location sharing, as reported by Mishaal Rahman of Esper.io.
