Threads keyword search expands to more countries including India

Meta, the parent company of popular social media platforms, is expanding its keyword search feature on Threads. This update aims to enhance the search experience for users in specific countries where English and Spanish are widely spoken.

How It Works: Keyword Search on Threads

The new search feature allows users to find people by their username, just like before. However, when you press the “search” button, it goes a step further by expanding your search to include all posts containing the specified keyword. This functionality resembles a simplified version of Instagram’s search feature.

Meta’s decision to roll out keyword search in English and Spanish follows Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement about testing this feature in Australia and New Zealand.

Additionally, Meta has plans to extend this feature to other languages and countries in the near future, and they’re actively seeking your input to enhance the search experience.

Meta recently introduced several updates to Threads, including the Threads web app and features like sharing in Instagram DMs and custom alt-text. Threads initially gained immense attention, with over 100 million sign-ups within five days of its July 5 launch.

However, it faced a decline in popularity as users returned to the more familiar platform X (formerly Twitter). Despite this, Meta’s improved web version and enhanced search feature could potentially lure some users back.

Availability

The keyword search is now available in English and Spanish, focusing on countries where these languages are commonly used for posting, including Argentina, India, Mexico, and the U.S. This feature is now accessible in more countries, both on mobile and web.
