Google Camera rebranded as Pixel Camera on Play Store

Google has made a change to its camera app, previously known as the Google Camera app for Pixel devices. The app has now been renamed and is simply called ‘Pixel Camera’ on the Play Store.

The company has also updated the app’s description, emphasizing its features, such as Portrait mode, Night Sight, Time Lapse, and Cinematic Blur, with the promise of helping you capture memorable moments. The new app description is as follows:

Never miss a moment with the fully redesigned Pixel Camera, and take fantastic photos and videos using features like Portrait, Night Sight, Time Lapse and Cinematic Blur.

Google is using this opportunity to showcase exclusive features for the Pixel 8 Pro, including the impressive 50MP High Res and Pro Controls. These features are also highlighted in the accompanying screenshots.

Availability

The current version of the Pixel Camera app, as of now, is v9.0 for devices like the Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel 7 Pro. On the other hand, the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro have the slightly updated version, v9.1.

It’s important to note that the latest Pixel Camera version is compatible only with Pixel devices running Android 14 or later. For Wear OS devices, it functions on Wear OS 3 and higher, but they must be connected to Pixel smartphones.

For users of Pixel 7 devices, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel 8 Series, you can update to the latest version of Pixel Camera from the Google Play Store.
