Union Minister encourages Samsung to invest in Semicon R&D and AI in India


In a significant meeting at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the top brass of Samsung Electronics Southwest Asia, led by Mr. JB Park, President & CEO, alongside Mr. Hyun Kim, VP & Chief Relations Officer, and Mr. Rajiv Aggarwal, VP, engaged in discussions regarding India’s burgeoning tech landscape.

The focal point of the conversation was the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), an initiative housed within the Digital India Corporation. This mission strives to establish a robust semiconductor and display ecosystem, positioning India as a global powerhouse in electronics manufacturing and design.

Encouraging Samsung to deepen its roots in the Indian tech soil, Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasized the need for increased investments in crucial areas such as IT hardware, Semicon R&D, and AI.

Samsung, already a formidable presence in the Indian market with its smartphones and consumer products, holds the potential to contribute significantly to the growth of these sectors.

This meeting comes on the heels of the recent Samsung AI Forum 2023, where the company showcased groundbreaking advancements in AI and computer engineering. Teasing the Samsung Galaxy AI for the 2024 Galaxy phones, it’s evident that Samsung is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s tech future.

India AI Programme Set for Cabinet Approval

Meanwhile, at the Nasscom Future Forge 2023, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar revealed that the India AI programme is poised for cabinet approval.

This program aims to promote the use of artificial intelligence by Indian startups to address various challenges. Scheduled for launch on December 11, the India AI programme will precede the three-day AI summit.

With a focus on semiconductors, Web3, AI, high-performance computing, and cybersecurity, India’s digital economy is set to account for 20% of the GDP by 2026, reflecting a remarkable journey in the tech realm.
