Samsung R&D Institute, Bangalore, has partnered with Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) to inaugurate the ‘Samsung Student Ecosystem for Engineered Data (SEED) Lab.’ This collaboration provides an immersive opportunity for students and faculty to explore artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data engineering.
The SEED Lab, a five-year initiative between SRI-B and VIT, spans 4,000 sq ft. Equipped with facilities, including a green room for lighting experiments and robust backend infrastructure for data storage, the lab accommodates up to 75 members.
Within VIT’s SEED Lab, students and faculty will engage in joint research on cutting-edge technologies such as mobile tech, speech and text recognition, and machine learning. Senior engineers from Samsung R&D Institute, Bangalore (SRI-B) will closely collaborate with VIT members.
This marks Samsung’s expansion of SEED Labs beyond Karnataka, with two existing labs in the state. Over 250 students have participated in AI and big data-related projects through previous initiatives. The VIT-based lab aims to harness academic capabilities in executing AI and data-centric projects.
Collaborative research opportunities are extended to third and fourth-year B. Tech and M. Tech students, as well as Ph.D. scholars at VIT. Emphasizing knowledge dissemination, students are encouraged to co-author papers with SRI-B engineers.
Samsung’s engagement with students extends beyond this collaboration, with ongoing initiatives like Samsung PRISM, fostering R&D projects across top engineering colleges in Karnataka.
Regarding the inauguration, Mohan Rao Goli, Chief Technology Officer, SRI-B said,
At Samsung, we believe in leveraging the power of the ecosystem. Our strategic partnership with VIT, Vellore not only reflects our commitment to fostering cutting-edge research but also reinforces our dedication to nurture talent and upskill our workforce. With VIT, we are forging new frontiers in research and innovation, while nurturing the next generation of digital leaders. Together, we are embarking on a journey to unlock the limitless potential of research and learning in the fast-evolving technology and business landscape. This will further Samsung’s unwavering commitment to its vision of #PoweringDigitalIndia.
Regarding the inauguration, Dr. G Viswanathan, Founder & Chancellor, VIT, Vellore said,
Today, our world is becoming increasingly data-centric, and along with AI, it continues to transform the way we live, work and do business.
