  • Dell held third place in 2023 with a market share of 15.5%. Despite its decline of 24.5% YoY in 2023, the company continued to hold second position in the commercial segment with a share of 20%.
  • Acer Group ranked fourth with a 12.3% share, growing 16.1% YoY in 2023 due to strong demand for commercial desktops. The vendor held fourth position in the commercial segment with a share of 15.7%.
  • ASUS ranked fifth with a 7.9% share, experiencing a YoY growth of 8.6%. ASUS held second position in the consumer segment behind HP with a share of 15.1%.

Looking ahead, the commercial segment is expected to be slow because of the 2024 elections. AI-powered laptops may gain attraction this year. Local assembling of laptops will boom this year, laying a strong foundation for 2025.

Regarding the matter, Bharath Shenoy, Senior Research Analyst, IDC India said,

Low market sentiments after the pandemic led to reduced consumer demand, resulting in a steep shipment correction in the second half of 2022 and the first half of 2023. However, the decision on import regulations, improving market sentiment, and an aggressive push from vendors ensured a market recovery in the second half of 2023. Despite a minor decline last year, the market was way ahead of pre-COVID shipments, which underscores the stability in consumer segment.

Commenting on the outlook, Navkendar Singh, Associate Vice President, Devices Research, IDC India, South Asia & ANZ said,

In 2023, India’s PC market struggled in both the consumer and commercial segments due to high channel inventory, slowing demand, and pessimism in the market. With elections coming up in 2Q24, the commercial segment will be slow as deals/projects, especially in the public sector, will be delayed. However, an increased focus on local assembly and the launch of AI-powered devices in second half of the year can provide a boost going into 2025.
