Bharti Airtel, in partnership with IDEMIA Secure Transactions, has announced a shift from using new plastic to recycled PVC for its SIM cards.
Airtel’s Recycled PVC SIM Card Adoption
This move aligns with Airtel’s goal of promoting circular business practices, marking a first in the Indian telecommunications industry. By making this change, Airtel aims to reduce the creation of over 165 tonnes of new plastic and decrease CO2 emissions by over 690 tonnes annually.
Airtel has set ambitious targets to cut its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. By the fiscal year 2030-31, compared to the base year of 2020-21, the company plans to reduce its scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50.2%.
Additionally, Airtel aims to decrease its scope 3 GHG emissions by 42% within the same timeframe. To achieve its emission reduction goals, Airtel is implementing various strategies.
These include initiatives such as promoting energy efficiency, integrating green energy sources into its operations, and transitioning to renewable energy.
Furthermore, Airtel has noted that it focuses on building a resilient network, improving resource efficiency, and enhancing waste management practices, all in line with its commitment to sustainability.
