Samsung is preparing to launch its next-gen foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, this year, as reported by The Elec, a Korean publication.
The mass production of components for these new foldables is set to begin in early May, 2–3 weeks earlier than last year. Speculation suggests that Samsung aims to capitalize on the success of the Galaxy S24 series by swiftly releasing its remaining 2024 flagship phones.
Alongside, The Elec also mentions the possibility of an entry-level foldable phone model, dubbed “Fold FE,” likely to coincide with the release of the Apple iPhone 16 series.
Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6 coming in July 2024
Considering the earlier mass production schedule, the launch of the Galaxy Z6 series might be pushed back to mid-to-late July, compared to the previous year’s August release. An industry official noted that the finished foldable phone product could be released in July due to the faster production schedule.
The entry-level model of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to launch in September or October, around 2 to 3 months later than the regular Z Fold 6 model and Z Flip 6, potentially diverting consumer attention to the iPhone 16 series released around the same time.
The standard Z Fold 6 model is designed to be thinner than its predecessor, with the entry-level model aiming for even greater thinness and cost reduction by omitting stylus support.
Samsung Electronics aims to emphasize its capability in producing thin foldable phones through both the standard and entry-level models of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
The report also mentions that the Galaxy S25 series, to be released early next year, is expected to have specifications and component partners decided in May.
Samsung Unpacked Event 2024
The expected launch date for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 is in the first half of July. Samsung’s second Unpacked event of the year, rumored to be held in Paris, has been adjusted due to various factors, leading to an early launch this year.
In addition to the foldable phones, the Galaxy Ring is also expected to arrive, with its design showcased at MWC 2024. Samsung teased the product without providing much information, hinting at a launch later this year, likely in July.
