Apple could launch new iPad Pro and iPad Air models in May

Apple’s suppliers abroad are increasing production of new iPads, as reported by Mark Gurman on Bloomberg. The launch is set for early May. As reported by sources, the focus will be on upgraded versions of the iPad Pro and iPad Air.

As previously reported, the iPad Pro will see significant changes, sporting an OLED screen, updated design, M3 chip, and a revamped Magic Keyboard attachment. This positions it as the top-tier model. Meanwhile, the iPad Air, available in 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch sizes with an M2 processor, offers a notable improvement over the standard iPad.

The iPad Pro models, codenamed J717, J718, J720, and J721, will run on the new M3 chip and come with redesigned versions of the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. This marks the first major overhaul since 2018.

As for the iPad Air, last updated in 2022 with the M1 chip, it will receive a new processor. The 12.9-inch screen option provides a larger iPad at a lower price point compared to the more premium Pro model.

Gurman reports that Apple delayed the launch, initially planned for late March or early April, due to software finalization and screen manufacturing complexity. Apple intends to rekindle tablet demand with its latest models, incorporating faster chips and redesigned accessories, following approximately 18 months since the last iPad updates.

An early May release precedes Apple’s upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference on June 10, where the company will unveil future software updates, including iPadOS 18, macOS 18, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, and the Vision Pro headset.
