Apple has finally released Apple Maps on the web in beta. This comes 12 years after the launch of Apple Maps app on iOS 6.
In addition to searching for directions, and details about places including photos, hours, ratings, and reviews, you can also browse curated Guides to discover places to eat, shop, and explore in cities around the world. There are guides for some countries, but it is not available for Asia yet.
Apple said that features like ‘Look Around’ offering 360-degree panoramic views will be available in the coming months. There are standard, hybrid and satellite maps view. Apple misses the street view, which is one of the main advantages in Google Maps.
All developers, including those using MapKit JS, can also link out to Maps on the web, so their users can get driving directions, see detailed place information, and more, said the company.
Availability
Maps on the web is available from beta.maps.apple.com in English on Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, as well as Chrome and Edge on Windows PCs. Support for additional languages, browsers, and platforms will be expanded over time, said Apple.
