Sennheiser unveils Spectera Bidirectional Wideband Solution at Broadcasting India 2024

Sennheiser today presented a range of cutting-edge audio technologies at Broadcasting India 2024, one of the leading events in infotainment technology. The standout product was the newly launched Spectera, the world’s first bidirectional wideband audio solution.

Spectera: Simplifying Wireless Audio Systems

Spectera introduces WMAS (Wireless Multichannel Audio Systems) technology, simplifying wireless audio setups while enhancing performance and streamlining workflows.

Unlike traditional systems that use multiple narrowband RF carriers, Spectera operates on a single wideband RF channel. This bidirectional system allows for both audio transmission and control data, making remote control and monitoring more comprehensive.

Over 700 attendees visited the Sennheiser booth to experience the Spectera ecosystem firsthand. The system addresses challenges like frequency coordination and rack space limitations by using a single Base Station with 32 inputs and 32 outputs in one rack unit. This replaces a full rack of wireless mic receivers and IEM transmitters, reducing the overall system footprint.

Key Features of Spectera

Spectera’s wideband RF channel can accommodate an entire production using either 6 MHz or 8 MHz bandwidths. The compact bodypacks support both mic/line and IEM/IFB needs simultaneously. Key features include:

  • Complete remote control and monitoring: Adjust audio settings, control mic and IEM levels, and monitor RF health and battery status in real-time.
  • Continuous two-way communication: Enables real-time adjustments via a permanent control data stream.
  • 32-bit float precision audio processing: Ensures high-quality digital audio for mics, instruments, and IEMs using application-specific audio codecs.
  • Eleven Audio Link Modes: Allows flexibility in managing audio quality, latency, channel count, and operating range for every link, maximizing the use of the RF channel.

Versatile Solution for Large Productions

Spectera’s innovative wideband solution is ideal for large-scale productions, such as touring, broadcasting, and theatre. It meets key requirements for ease of use, operational reliability, and flexibility, while reducing the need for complex frequency coordination and additional hardware. The ecosystem grows with the needs of users, making it highly adaptable.

Other Highlights at Broadcasting India 2024

In addition to Spectera, Sennheiser showcased several other products at the event, including the D6K, EW-DX, Shotgun microphones, Broadcast headsets, the Profile USB microphone, and the newly launched MD421 Kompakt microphone.

Speaking at the event, Vipin Pulgania, Sales Director – Pro Audio & Country Manager at Sennheiser India, said,

We are thrilled with the overwhelming response to our Spectera at Broadcasting India. This innovative solution offers exceptional ease of use, reliability, and flexibility, making it ideal for large-scale productions across various industries.

With Spectera, we’re providing a powerful tool that simplifies wireless audio workflows and opens up new creative possibilities, including immersive 3D audio. We plan to continuously expand the Spectera ecosystem with new hardware, software features, and services.
