Ovi store roll-out has begun and its available first Down Under in Australia. To all those who are still unfamiliar to the Ovi Store, it’s Nokia’s very own version of Apple’s App Store. The launch has been eagerly awaited and Australia was the first to get it. AAS’s Rafe Blandford was first who brought the story out. Here an excerpt of the post from AAS
“Nokia’s Ovi Store has soft launched in Australia; the information we recieved indicates that Ovi Store is now accessible on a Nokia E75 on the Australian operator Vodafone. Ovi Store is Nokia’s content store and download application for applications, games, wallpapers, themes, ringtones and video clips.
Currently the Ovi Store should be considered to be in soft launch. Nokia are likely doing performance test and checks before the formal roll out. “
AAS also mentions the way to install and use the OVi store application:
“How to download and install Ovi Store (provisional)
Currently, to download and install the Ovi Store, you need to:
Open Download and choose Options > Refresh content
Open the Nokia Extra’s Category, here you should find an entry for Ovi Store
Download and install Ovi Store
Access Ovi Store as you would any other application (it’ll be in your Installations / My Extras or similar folder.”
This might work in some regions and might not elsewhere as when i tried on my N96 i did not find any such application, nevertheless i encourage you all to give it a try
Also this screen shot from Nokia Conversations also confirm the launch and thus all of us can expect a formal announcement and launch of the Ovi store formally soon.
Keep tuned in here for latest news on Ovi store.
