Nintendo Switch 2 design teased, to be launched in 2025

Nintendo shared the first details about the Nintendo Switch 2 on Thursday in a video on Nintendo of America’s YouTube channel. The video showcased the design updates and new features of the upcoming console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is noticeably larger than the original Switch, rumored to feature an 8.4-inch OLED display. The bezels are thinner, giving it a modern look, and the updated Joy-Cons are slightly bigger.

These controllers now attach magnetically, and the right Joy-Con has a new button next to the home button. Both Joy-Cons include extra triggers at the back, near the L/R buttons. Like the original, a controller grip allows you to combine the Joy-Cons for a more traditional gamepad feel.

The console retains a familiar layout, with power and volume buttons on the top left, cooling vents in the center, a headphone jack, and a second USB-C port on the right. The bottom still features a USB-C connector. The back of the device has a redesigned U-shaped kickstand, offering more flexible positioning options than the original.

The video also unveils a new dock for the Switch 2 and confirms the arrival of a new Mario Kart game, potentially Mario Kart 9, which fans have awaited since Mario Kart 8 debuted in 2014.

The company also shared that the Nintendo Switch 2 will support exclusive games, as well as most physical and digital Nintendo Switch titles, though some older games may not be fully compatible. Nintendo Switch Online members will be able to continue using the service on the new console.
