Reports have emerged which suggest that Beats might be about to outright buy the MOG music subscription service. HTC owns a controlling stake in the headphone manufacturing company (Beats) after they put $300 million in the company last year.
MOG has been increasing its subscriber base by pushing deeper integration with Facebook. It claims to have 500,000 active subscribers of which 130,000 use the service via Facebook. HTC’s acquisition of MOG would give it a foothold in the digital music distribution business as well and would give it yet another selling point for its Android handsets especially if it offers an year or more of free service alongside a handset. With its established market presence , a buyout by HTC might be exactly what MOG needs to become relevant compared to its extremely popular competitor ie Spotify.
