Rumor: Android 4.2 to be released in a few days as an incremental update for Jelly Bean

Everyone is excited about the next Nexus and also the next version of Android. Rumors are going around that the next Nexus will be announced with a new version of Android, maybe 4.2. But according to software versions spotted on server logs  show that that Android 4.2 will be coming out sooner than expected, within about two weeks and it might be an incremental update for Jelly bean and not Key-Lime Pie as we were expecting it to be.

Following is the Server log of Google employees testing the various Android versions on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 and a Motorola device, maybe the Xoom or who knows whether Google is working on a secret Motorola Nexus.

  • Linux; Android 4.2; Nexus 7 Build/JOO92B
  • Linux; Android 4.2; Nexus 7 Build/JOP02B
  • Linux; U; Android 4.2; en-us; Galaxy Nexus Build/JOP04C
  • Linux; Android 4.2; Galaxy Nexus Build/JOO92B
  • Linux; Android 4.2; Galaxy Nexus Build/JOP04
  • Linux; Android 4.2; occam Build/JOO92B
  • Linux; Android 4.2; occam Build/JOP04B
  • Linux; Android 4.2; occam Build/JOP04C
  • Linux; U; Android 4.2; en-us; occam Build/JOP03B
  • Linux; U; Android 4.2; en-gb; occam Build/JOP03B
  • Linux; U; Android 4.2; en-us; occam Build/JOP04
  • Linux; Android 4.2; manta Build/JOP04C
  • Linux; Android 4.2; manta Build/JOP03
  • Linux; Android 4.2; manta Build/JOP05

You can clearly see that the version starts with a J, and all the builds also start with J. This could well mean that Android 4.2 is an incremental update for Jelly Bean because usually a major update follows  with the change of build version.

I am sure that this would not make any difference and the incremental update will be as awesome as any other previous updates and hope it has some really cool features to try out.
