Sony Mobile has announced that they have started rolling out a new software update (v6.2.B.1.96) for the Sony Xperia S, SL and acro S that brings lot of performance and stability tweaks / improvements. Sony says that they have received lot of feed back regarding issues in the recent Android 4.1 build that started rolling out back in May. Sony announced the list of high-end devices that would get the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) update and promised that they would roll out the updates faster.

Camera
- Fix for abnormality in the white balance
- Improved “Quick Launch” button functionality
- Smother 1080p video recording and minimal lag
Apps, services & data
- Exchange Active Sync is now streamlined particularly when running an encrypted set-up
- Better connection stability for 2G network data
- Preferences on 3rd party apps now remain after reboot
Battery
- Better power consumption, and heat dispersion for longer life
- Corrected juice level notifications, especially when running low
Hardware & UI
- Now use home key long-press to launch Google Now, and a double-press to launch Recent Apps
- Volume “up” button is now fully responsive
We have received the software update on our Xperia S via Sony PC Companion. The update would be available Over the Air (OTA) (depending on the regions and carriers) and via PC Companion on Windows/ Bridge for Mac. It would be rolled out gradually, hence it might vary across different carriers and countries.
