Diwali season is here and in an effort to capitalize on the rapidly growing lucrative Internet market in India, Google have just announced the entry of two new Chromebooks, the Acer C720 and the HP Chromebook 14. Both these Chromebooks are built for Internet access, and with the Chrome OS being cloud centric, it is obvious that internet access is almost mandatory. It might be a deal breaker for some, so Google has partnered with Airtel to provide some offers for 3G as well as 4G data dongles for data connectivity on the go. The offer is applicable only with purchases of a Chromebook, irrespective of the model.

There are two offers for the Chromebooks – 3G and 4G.

Lets take a look at the 3G offer –

Along with the Chromebook, if you pay Rs. 2,499/- extra, you get a 3G dongle worth Rs. 1,299/- free and 6GB of data each month free, for three months. If we do the math, you are saving Rs. 550 per month and a total of Rs. 1,650 by opting for this offer. After the 3 month offer, if you want to continue the plan, it will cost Rs. 950 per month.

Now, the 4G offer –

You pay the same Rs. 2,499/- extra and get a 4G dongle free. This offer gets tricky here. According to Airtel –

So, you get two months of free data of 10 GB/ month, which will usually cost you 999*2 INR and you also get free gaming subscription and movie subscription, of which we have no expanded information of. Now, this is clearly only for two months, but the offer says “From the 6th month onwards” which makes it slightly unclear whether it is actually 3rd, but we feel it will be very much so. So, overall you are saving quite a lot of money if you are opting for the 4G LTE option, but the caveat is it’s available only in few cities.

Lets take a look at the Terms and Conditions now –

3G offer –

  • » The offer is only applicable for customers purchasing the Google Chromebook.

4G offer –

  • » The offer is only applicable for customers purchasing the Google Chromebook.
  • » The offer should be redeemed within one month of purchase of your Chromebook. (Date to be validated on the basis of the bill).

Interestingly, you *have* to continue with the 999/month offer for 6 months if you wish to choose the 4G dongle. So, there you go, the two offers detailed for you.
