Airtel already confirmed their plans to roll out 4G LTE service on smartphones for customers in Bangalore later this month. Some of our users have received a carrier settings update on the iPhone 5s and 5c that enables the 2300 MHz LTE (Band 40) on their smartphones. This was first spotted by BGR India. Airtel’s TD-LTE service works only on that particular band (40) which is rarely seen in smartphones that are currently sold in India.
After the new carrier update you get “Enable LTE” option in the Cellular settings, instead of 3G. Even though Bangalore would be the first circle to get LTE support, all the iPhone 5s and 5c users on Airtel would receive this carrier update which reportedly fixes some network issues.
Airtel uses Circuit Switched FallBack (CSFB) voice solution for the TD-LTE network that would let customers to make and receive voice calls and access voice mails while retaining the experience of ultra-fast data 4G services. Earlier this year Airtel had announced that they would offer voice services for 4G customers in Pune, but it did not happen. Airtel currently offers 4G LTE services in Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Punjab,
