Recently, Sony updated their latest flagships – Sony Xperia Z1 and Sony Xperia Z Ultra to Android 4.3 Jellybean. While the whole industry is currently working on bringing Android 4.4 KitKat to its device, Sony is a little behind the curve as it is just rolling out Android 4.3 Jellybean.
Sony has started rolling out the Android 4.3 Jellybean update for four devices( 3 smartphones and a tablet) that were launched in 2013 – Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia ZL, Sony Xperia ZR and Sony Xperia Tablet Z. Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z were launched with Android 4.1.2 Jellybean on board and somewhere during the middle of 2013, all the three devices were updated to Android 4.2.2. The Sony Xperia ZR was launched with Android 4.2.2 Jellybean out of the box. Now, Sony has started updating all the four devices simultaneously to Android 4.3 Jellybean.
Among the various features in Android 4.3, the following are a few highlights –
- The update brings UI optimization and enhanced Project Butter performance that came with Google’s Android 4.3
- Sony’s Social Camera which debuted on Xperia Z1 is now available for all the four devices
- Updated core Sony apps with under the hood optimization and small changes – Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, Sony Select
- Enhanced Media applications – Album, WALKMAN and Movies
- Unique custom interface experience: “Xperia Themes”, with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select
- The latest Android security enhancements, matched with Sony’s mobile enterprise solution: Xperia in Business
- Sony Xperia Tablet Z gets restricted profiles which was a key feature in Android 4.3 Jellybean
The update will be rolled out gradually across all countries.
