Alibaba to launch English version of Aliyun OS

China based B2B company Alibaba had recently launched its ‘Aliyun OS’ which is basically an Android fork targeted towards the Chinese market. Having achieved moderate success , the company now plans to launch an English version of the OS.

If ThisIsMyNext ‘s sources are to be believed then the next major version of Android after Ice Cream Sandwich could be called Jelly Bean. The site reports that some of the major changes planned out for Ice Cream Sandwich have been held off to speed up delivery of the update.

US based home improvement chain , Lowe’s , plans to distribute close to 42,000 iPhones between its employees to improve the in store shopping experience for customers. The iPhones will allow employees to perform on-the-go product lookups, check stock, and pull up instructional videos for customers.

Intel to discontinue MeeGo development ? Not so fast !

Rumors are rife that Intel plans to discontinue MeeGo development following the rather tepid market response to hardware based on fledgling OS. Digitimes reports that Intel is planning to “temporarily discontinue development of its MeeGo OS” . If Intel backs down from the OS it would mean the end of the linux based operating system from a commercial point of view and would be relegated to being a hobbyist OS at best.

Samsung brings ‘Pure Breeze’ launcher to Android

Samsung labs have just released a new launcher app for Android based phones. Called ‘Pure Breeze’ the app replaces the default homescreen and allows users to organize their apps, groups, and tasks, and create shortcuts.

HTC Runnymede 2 to offer Beats Audio ?

A new HTC handset has appeared in the rumor mills which suggest that the Android based smartphone will sport a 4.7″ display. Other specifications include a 1.5Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor. 16GB – 32GB of storage can be expected in the handset alongside support for SRS Surround Sound. An 8MP camera capable of capturing 720p video is expected to be found on the back of the device.
