Sony QX Cameras to get firmware update in January

At IFA 2013 in Berlin, which was held during September, Sony launched their latest flagship Android smartphone – Sony Xperia Z1 and a couple of WiFi enabled QX series lens. Sony’s QX 10 and QX 100 received a lot of acclaim from the industry and are now all set to receive a firmware update. According to Engadget, the update will be coming to the two lenses sometime in January and the update is expected to improve the camera performance.

HTC One Max Red comes to Taiwan

Last week, HTC launched a black variant of their phablet, HTC One Max in Hong Kong and now they are launching a Red variant in their homeland, Taiwan. HTC One Max was launched recently in India and it is one of the costliest Android smartphones around in the market. HTC One Max takes over the same design language from the company’s flagship – HTC One and has almost exactly similar specifications and comes with a fingerprint scanner at the back.

Silicon Image introduces MHL 3.0 with support for 4K Ultra HD

Just in time for CES 2014, Silicon Image has introduced the first 4K UHD capable MHL 3.0 solution for mobile smartphones. For those of you who are not aware of MHL, it is a solution that lets you stream content from your smartphone to a larger display via a port and wired connection. With MHL 3.0, smartphones can now 4K content to TVs without loss in quality. MHL not only transfers high quality data, but also charges the device.

Speaking at the launch event, the senior director of marketing at Silicon Image, David Kuo stated that “Silicon Image continues to lead the industry in HD connectivity solutions by delivering the first suite of products featuring MHL 3.0 functionality and 4K Ultra HD support to deliver cinema quality resolution from mobile devices to displays. With Silicon Image’s MHL 3.0 ICs, mobile device manufacturers can seamlessly incorporate the new enhancements of MHL 3.0 into their flagship products that feature interactive Ultra HD mobile PC and gaming applications.”

MHL 2.0 had support for 1080p transfer and now with UHD, there is a need for a bandwidth twice its size and MHL 3.0 provides that along with a wider color gamut for richer visual experience. MHL 3.0 is a bi-directional channel and hence it allows support for external storage and various input options like mouse, keyboard and gaming controllers. The new MHL 3.0 will be showcased during CES 2014 scheduled for the first week of January 2014. MHL 3.0 may find its place in the next year flagships which are rumored to come with 2K displays and support for 4K content.

Sony starts rolling out Android 4.3 Jellybean to Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra

LG G2 to receive Android 4.4 KitKat later this month

LG has been a little bit late in bringing software updates to its Android smartphone series, but things seemed to have changed for the South Korean manufacturer. When Google announced their latest and greatest version of Android – 4.4 KitKat in November, few people were ebullient, few were skeptical and a whole lot had only one question – “When is it coming to my phone?”. LG G2 is LG’s current flagship smartphone and rightly so, LG is giving it the treatment it deserves. Just over a 50 days since the launch of Android 4.4 KitKat, LG are announcing that the Android 4.4 KitKat update will be coming to LG G2 at the end of this month, but only in South Korea for now.

Google and LG fixing hardware issues with Nexus 5 with minor redesign

Google’s Nexus 5 is one great phone for its price and currently it is Google’s best smartphone in the market. Google is giving all the attention that this handset, manufactured by LG, demands. Earlier, when the phone was launched, people claimed that the camera was not up to the mark as Google had widely advertised the camera on the Nexus 5. Then there were reports from users that the loudspeaker audio isn’t that great and that the physical buttons on the sides are not that great and clunky.
