Hands on with the Motorola Moto G
If you’re looking for a cheap Android smartphone, you’ll probably be looking at Samsung and Sony or a cheaper player like Micromax and Huawei. The only problem is – cheap Android phones are usually low spec and definitely not fast. Until now.
Google-owned Motorola introduced the Moto G, a budget Android smartphone with a BIG difference – it has a low cost price tag with excellent specs that definitely beat the best available from other manufacturers.

The first Windows Phone phablet, the Nokia Lumia 1520, could launch in the UK this month, less than two weeks after its announcement. According to Carphone Warehouse’s Coming Soon page, the UK retailer will launch the Full HD Lumia 1520 by the end of October and if accurate, this could be the first time Nokia has bought a handset to market within a fortnight of announcing it.
The Lumia 1520 is the first Windows Phone device to feature a 6 inch screen, Full HD resolution and a superfast quad-core processor. The 6 inch 1080p display offers 367 pixels per inch and the 2.2GHz quad-core processor is accompanied by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset and Adreno 330 GPU. The Lumia 1520 comes with Nokia’s imaging prowess as the 20MP camera offers ZEISS Optics, PureView oversampling technology, Optical Image Stabilisation and a dual-LED flash. During IFA 2013, alongside additions to its smartphone and other tablet ranges, Archos introduced the Archos 10.1 XS2 tablet that comes with a very cool ultrathin magnetic keyboard. The keyboard is a pleasure to use and slips away out of sight beneath the tablet (which can also be removed from the keyboard and carried around on its own).

We’ve already seen companies like Samsung target the child-tablet market with the Galaxy Tab 3 Kids but at IFA 2013, we discovered that Archos may have produced an absolute gem of a tablet and created a market all on their own. Dubbed the Archos ChefPad, it is targeted towards professional chefs or those adults who spend a lot of time in the kitchen and like to follow recipes.

At IFA 2013, Archos unveiled their latest Android smartphones and tablets and the Titanium range is the company’s entry level Android smartphone portfolio. Available with four screen sizes, the Archos Titanium range brings entry level specs to Android smartphones at a very affordable price and they’re actually not all that bad.

For every manufacturer, both big and small, there is a definite need to offer a variety of smartphones with different screen sizes. One of the most popular screen sizes at the moment, unless you’re Apple of course, is 5 inches which many manufacturers use for their flagship 1080p Full HD smartphones, like the LG G2 or Galaxy S4. However, at IFA 2013 as part of their Titanium entry level range, Archos unveiled the 50 Titanium to cater for those who want the big screen size without the hefty price tag.

During IFA 2013, little known player Archos announced a range of new Android powered smartphones and tablets – the Titanium range is their entry-level offering and comes with dual-SIM functionality in four screen sizes. The Archos 53 Titanium is the largest of the bunch and sports a 5.3 inch TFT FWVGA display that has 854 x 480 pixels resolution – as you can imagine, the low resolution combined with large screen make for a relatively dull viewing experience.

Everyone needs a tablet to use on the go and that’s Archos’ philosophy with the Archos 80 Xenon, their latest debutant in the 8 inch tablet class. At first you may take a look at the specs and be less than impressed and it’s easy to see why but it’s worth remembering that whilst the Archos 80 Xenon isn’t as good as the LG G-Pad 8.3 (which has the only 1080p display in the 8 inch class), it will still provide good value for money as it’s likely to cost A LOT less than its rivals.
