Google updates Hangouts for Android with homescreen widget and merges conversations

Google is bringing arrayof new features and updates to Hangouts on Android. The latest 2.1 update merges SMS and Hangouts conversation with the same person. This essentially means that a user does not have to switch back and forth between texts messages and instant messages (IM). Google also supports unmerging of conversations, which is useful for those users who wish to keep them separate.

LinkedIn has announced that is has surpassed 300 million registered users from 200 countries across the globe. Out of these 300 million members, 67% actually comes from outside the United States. Google rumored to be working on a budget Nexus smartphone

Google is reportedly working on a low budget Nexus smartphone and has teamed up with Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek for the same, according to a Chinese website MTKSJ. The entry-level Nexus is rumoured to be priced as low as $100 (about Rs 6,000) and hence will fall in the category of lower mid-range phones.

Worldwide smartphone sales hit 267 million in Q1 2014: Trend Force

Emerging markets and China have resulted in an uptake in global smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2014, according to a latest report from Trend Force. The market research firm says that smartphone shipment worldwide hit 266.9 million units and improved by 1.13% in the first quarter of 2014.

Dropbox acquires startups Loom and Hackpad

In a bid to strengthen its offerings, Dropbox has acquired two start-ups. Firstly, the cloud storage company has bought photo-sharing company Loom Inc. and document-sharing startup Hackpad Inc. The move comes from Dropbox a week after launching their first Gallery app Carousel for Android and iPhone. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
