Sony is planning to kill its ‘premium standard’ models of Xperia smartphones, according to XperiaBlog. According the slides obtained by the publication, Sony Xperia X and Xperia X Compact smartphones that were launched last year will not get successors.

Xiaomi targets $14.5 billion revenue in 2017

Xiaomi has set new targets for 2017. The Chinese smartphone maker has revealed that it is targeting more than 100 billion yuan ($14.5 billion) in revenue in 2017. Xiaomi Chief Executive Lei Jun said “the worst is over” and touted 2016 as a “make-up year”.

Nokia roadmap hints at 6-7 Android phones for 2017

It looks like HMD Global has big plans for 2017 with Nokia phones. We have already seen reports about Nokia D1C and E1 Android smartphones. Now, presentation slide from one of the Malaysian distributor, named ‘Avaxx’, suggests HMD Global is expected to release a total of six to seven Nokia Android smartphones before the end of 2017.

Google Play Services will stop supporting Android Gingerbread and Honeycomb in early 2017

Google has announced that is is discontinuing support for Gingerbread and Honeycomb in Google Play services. Version 10.0.0 of the Google Play services client libraries, as well as the Firebase client libraries for Android, will be the last version of these libraries that support Android API level 9 (Android 2.3, Gingerbread).

The Unicode Consortium has today proposed a shortlist of 51 emojis for acceptance in Unicode 10. New emojis include a giraffe, dinosaur, T-Rex , vampire, zombies, bearded man, soda/milkshake, breastfeeding, a “shhh” face, pie, starry-eyed face, woman in hijab and zebra.
