Nokia 5800 vs 5530 XpressMusic

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the first touchscreen phone powered by Symbian Series 60 5th Edition was introduced in October 2008 and hit the markets during November 2008. Since it’s release, Nokia has had great success with the phone selling millions of units worldwide.

Initially the 5800 was available in Blue and Red variants which were, in time followed by a Black/Silver variant. A 5800 Navigation Edition was announced recently to celebrate the success of the 5800.

The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic was announced as a variant to the 5800 XpressMusic in June 2009 and is set to release worldwide in August 2009. The Indian release is scheduled for 25th August 2009. Continue reading “Nokia 5800 vs 5530 XpressMusic”

Nokia 5800i passes the FCC test: Looks very similar to 5800 but loses Wi-fi

After 5800 has turned out to be a major hit for Nokia, they are now readying for a small update to its first touch screen handset in the form of Nokia 5800i XpressMusic phone. After you hear the name, you may think that this is a upgrade over Nokia 5800 with some extra feature but sorry to disappoint, this model is not an upgrade over Nokia 5800 but in fact a downgrade over the present model, The Wi-fi connectivity has been removed from this particular model. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Firmware Update to Bring New Features

The Updates Continue to Roll from Nokia: E63 AND 5800XM get new firmware and Nokia Maps Updater goes to V1.08

Nokia E63 gets a new firmware

Closely following E71, E66 and E 51 the E63 today got its share of the updates from Nokia in the form of a new Firmware V200.21.012. There is no official changelog out yet. As always the update brings speed and web browsing improvements.

The E63 does not have UDP (User Data Preservation), so remember to backup all your data before the firmware update, since it will format the phone memory. So all you E63 users do let us know about the changes you see after updating the firmware in our comments section. Nokia 5800 v31.0.0.15 Firmware Update Coming soon

Good News for all the Nokia 5800 users, A new firmware update (v 31.0.0.15) is in the offing.

Recently, Nokia Conversations released their “Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0 Introduction” video on Youtube.  But if you watch the video attentively, at the 0:57 second of the video, you can clearly see that the Firmware version of the Nokia 5800 is showing as v.31.0.015.  And also Steve Litchfield of All About Symbian has also quoted in one of their articles that v31 firmware was the stable release inside Nokia a couple of weeks ago and he suspects it will appear in public this week.

Turn your S60 Phone into an iPhone with Mmmooo’s MyPhone

MyPhone is an application shell which can turn the UI of your S60 phone into an iPhone UI. The application has 2 different versions, one for the 3rd Gen Phone like E71, N73, N81 etc and another for 5th Gen Phones like 5800XM and Nokia N97.

The 5th Gen Edition of MyPhone is basically a flash based application with an iPhone kinda UI. But it looks quite impressive with a “Slide to unlock” feature, a Bottom Dock containing shortcuts for “Messages”, “Calls” and “Contacts” and many other shortcuts on the Home Screen as in an iPhone. You can also change to various other homescreens just by sliding forward/backwards on the UI. And if you want to customize the icons, you just have to long press on the icon you want to replace and touch on another icon with which you want to replace it with.

Nokia N97 rolling out in June,more Touchscreen phones coming soon

According to Digitimes , Nokia is launching the N97 in Taiwan next month – June. Also it going to announce more touchscreen phones , based on the Symbian S60 5th Edition  platform. This was from a Michael Hsu, general manager of Nokia Taiwan.

Nokia 5800 Hidden Theme Effects

Today I was just exploring my phone as usual, when I found out a completely unseen area in Themes Section, called as “Theme Effects”. Inquisitively, I just turned it on and checked the changes it made. Man O Man, I thanks my stars for that. The effects were truly amazing, the look and feel has now changed almost drastically, It has all this cascading, slide down, from behind effects which is usually seen on an iPhone.
