Samsung has signed MoU with Korean telecommunications operator LG U+ to jointly develop next generation 5G technology. The deal is aimed at boosting Korea’s lead in 5G research.

5G – What is it? What are the benefits? When will it launch?

4G networks are being widely deployed around the world and although the technology continues to evolve, the focus now switches to 5G – the fifth generation of mobile networks. Dubbed 5G, the next generation network may still be several years away from being deployed but is the buzzword in telecommunications at the moment.

Huawei and Russia’s MegaFon plan for 5G launch at 2018 World Cup

Huawei and Russian operator MegaFon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the development of 5G technology with a view to a potential launch in time for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The MoU builds on a partnership between the two companies that stretches back to the deployment of GSM in 2002. The MoU is likely to mean 5G services could become available to participants and guests at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and as part of the MoU, the two companies will work together to plan, build and deploy 5G network infrastructure. Samsung records 940MB/second data transmission rate on experimental 5G network

Samsung has announced that it was able to achieve 940MB/second or 7.5Gbps data transmission rate on expreimental 5G network. This was achieved by the company at a stationary environment.

National Instruments collaborates with Nokia for 5G

Earlier this month Nokia and NTT DOCOMO had announced a pact to research on 5G technology. Today, National Instruments (NI) has teamed up with Nokia’s Network Business to work on fifth generation (5G) wireless technologies such as exploring peak data rates and cell-edge rates in excess of 10 Gbps and 100 Mbps, respectively.
