Facebook India surpasses 100 million monthly active users

Facebook has crossed 100 million monthly active users in India which is the second largest country on the social network behind the US. Javier Olivan, VP, Growth & Analytics, Facebook stated in an interview with the Economic Times, that Facebook crossed the landmark on March 31. He also touted that the company is now eyeing for reaching over 1 billion active users in India.

Airtel launches the World’s First Paper Recharge with a QR Code

Airtel has just launched its latest recharge option called as ‘Smart Pack’. Smart Pack offers the users a new and ueasier way to recharge their smartphones. the ‘Smart Pack’ is a paper recharge coupon on which there is no numbers which you get by scratching , but contains just a QR code . All you need to do is to scan the QE code and your recharge is done.

Airtel reaches 200 million mobile customers in India

Airtel has announced that it has crossed  200 million mobile subscriber mark in India. It is the largest mobile operator in India and fourth largest mobile operator in the world in terms of subscribers. It has 1.5 million outlets and serves 86.7% of the country’s population. It crossed 60 million mobile customer mark in 2008 and reached 100 mobile subscriber base in India in 2009. It took just 5 years for Airtel to add 100 million customers.

Airtel acquires Loop Mobile to become Mumbai’s largest carrier


After yesterday’s report, Airtel has just confirmed that they would acquire Loop Mobile, to become the largest mobile network in Mumbai, by subscribers. It already has 4 million customers in the circle and would add the existing 3 million subscribers from Loop Mobile along with the 2G cell sites in the circle. It would offer 3G, 4G, airtel money, VAS and domestic/international roaming facilities for the Loop Mobile customers. Airtel unveils 3G and 4G Dongle offers for the newly launched Google Chromebooks

Diwali season is here and in an effort to capitalize on the rapidly growing lucrative Internet market in India, Google have just announced the entry of two new Chromebooks, the Acer C720 and the HP Chromebook 14. Both these Chromebooks are built for Internet access, and with the Chrome OS being cloud centric, it is obvious that internet access is almost mandatory. It might be a deal breaker for some, so Google has partnered with Airtel to provide some offers for 3G as well as 4G data dongles for data connectivity on the go. Airtel launches free incoming national roaming packs, starts at Rs. 5

Airtel has launched new roaming packs for both the prepaid and postpaid customers that would let them enjoy free roaming while travelling across India. Airtel launched a roaming pack for prepaid customers in Delhi back in March that offered discounted rates for incoming calls for roaming, now the new packs would offer free incoming calls. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reduced the limit for national roaming tariff for calls and SMS last monthVideocon already offers free incoming calls without any processing fee or a special tariff vouchers. Other operators are yet to announce free national roaming plans.

Airtel cuts 2G data rates up to 90% on select plans

Airtel has slashed the 2G data rates up to 90 percent on select plans for pre-paid customers in Punjab and Haryana, reports The Times of India. This comes after Vodafone’s move to cut 2G data rates up to 80% for the Pay as you Go (PAYG) in Karnataka, UP West and Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh circles for both pre-paid and post-paid customers. Interrupting my usual Internet binging over a daily 2 hour commute, was a message from my operator. The message said I had exhausted my 2 GB limit for high speed internet this month, and now will be forced to a ridiculously low speed of 64 kbps. Say what?! Yes, I understand the concept of a fair usage policy thank you very much, and hey, apparently, I can either go through with the reduced speeds or order an add-on pack for an additional 250 rupees for a GB of 3G data. How lovely!

Airtel can continue 3G Intra-circle roaming, but cannot add new 3G customers in 7 circles, says SC

Supreme Court has ordered Bharti Airtel not to extend its 3G Intra-circle roaming services to new customers in the 7 circles, where it did not have licences for 3G spectrum, according to a report from The Economic Times. Airtel got a temporary relief earlier this week, when Supreme Court allowed them to continue their 3G intra-circle roaming till April 11th. Last month DoT had asked Bharti Airtel to stop 3G services in 7 circles and asked them to pay Rs. 350 crore (Rs. 50 crore per circle) for illegal roaming pact with Vodafone and Idea Delhi High Court temporarily stalled the execution of DoT’s order until the final hearing, after Airtel appealed against it. Airtel launches WiFi hangout – a prepaid hotspot service in select cities

India’s leading mobile and broadband provider Airtel has now sought after a new way to provide its broadband internet as a service. While the notion of a paid WiFi hotspot is nothing new in India, there has not been a wide commercial push that has widened its reach, and Airtel may fix just that, with its new “WiFi Hangout” service, a prepaid WiFi hotspot, initially launched in three cities/regions namely Mumbai, NCR and Bangalore.
