Apple replaces Xiaomi as China’s top smartphone seller while its market contracts

China’s smartphone market has contracted by 4% YoY (Year on Year), in the first quarter of 2015 with 98.8 million units as opposed to the same time frame last year. This is the first time in six years that the Chinese market has declined YoY.

Xiaomi beats Samsung as China’s leading smartphone maker: IDC

Xiaomi has surpassed Samsung as the largest smartphone maker in China, as per a latest report from IDC. The Chinese smartphone maker reported a market share of 12.5% in 2014, overtaking Samsung which stood at 12.1%.

Motorola officially re-enters China, launches three smartphones

Motorola has officially re-entered China by launching Moto X, Moto X Pro and Moto G with 4G LTE. The company would begin taking pre-orders for the second-gen Moto G and the 2014 flagship Moto X in China, and showed off the Moto X Pro (basically a de-branded Nexus 6).

Lenovo to form new smartphone company in China next year

In a  bid to tap one of the largest smartphone markets, Lenovo has announced that it will set up a new smartphone company in China. The company will set up a new subsidiary next year on April 1 to focus on smart devices and Internet sales in China.
