Samsung has made the Galaxy S5 Active official after several leaks. It would go on on sale in the U.S. today on AT&T. It has similar specifications as the Galaxy S5, including a 5.1-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display, 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) with Samsung own UI on top. The Galaxy S5 already has IP67 ratings for Dust and water Resistance, but the Galaxy S5 Active is shockproof and meets US Mil-STD 810G for shock, temperature, humidity, rain and altitude. Samsung Galaxy S5 is the company’s current flagship and it is only fair that we have a number of products sharing the same monicker and Samsung is not the company that holds back on naming on its devices based on their flagships. We saw a lot of smartphones with the Galaxy S4 name and now we are in a time where we can expect similar Galaxy S5 based products.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Active surfaces in leaked images and video
We know that Samsung is working on a Active version of the Galaxy S5. Earlier this month photos of Samsung Galaxy S5 Active and specifications were leaked via FCC documents. Soon, rumors about the Samsung Galaxy Prime started floating around. A most recent video leak shows a Galaxy S5 handset with an all-aluminum back panel-a design feature. Its boasts of a similar design to the S4 Active that was launched in December last year. The Galaxy S5 Active shown in the video carries the model number SM-G870A and is an AT&T model. Galaxy S5 is dust and water resistant phone, so it will be interesting to see what kind of features will the Galaxy S5 Active have.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Active leaked via FCC documents, comes with Galaxy S5 Specifications
Samsung has almost made it a trend of announcing a flagship early in the year and then deriving various other products from it. Last year, Samsung announced the Galaxy S4 and then followed it up with a Galaxy S4 mini and a Galaxy S4 Active variant that was water and dust resistant. And from the look of things, it seems that Samsung will continue to follow the trend in 2014.
