Sapphire glass supplier, GT Advanced Technologies, files for bankruptcy

GT Advanced Technologies, a company that specializes in supplying engineered sapphire glass has just filed for bankruptcy. The company had entered into a contract with Apple last year to supply sapphire crystal glass for upcoming products.

While it was speculated that Apple would be using sapphire glass on the iPhone 6, it instead opted to use its own version of reinforced glass instead. GT Advanced ramps up production capacity for Sapphire Crystal iPhone displays

GT Advanced, manufacturer of sapphire crystal components for Apple is ramping up production. According to SEC Filings, the company entered a partnership with Apple last year which came with an exclusivity clause for “Consumer Electronics Products”. The company currently manufactures sapphire crystal components like Apple Touch ID fingerprint readers and caps for camera sensors.
