Tablet shipments expected to exceed total PC shipments in 2015

IDC, the analysis company that analyses several markets every quarter has released a report that Tablet shipments are all set to overtake total PC shipments in 2015. With a rapidly growing tablet market, IDC notes that the landscape is changing after the flood of low cost Android tablets with screen sizes less than 8 inches, which might contribute as much as 57% of the total tablet market in 2017, while the rest is constituted by bigger tablets, mostly the iPad. The iPad mini too might be a  proven driver in the sales of small tablets.

Android at 75% marketshare, Windows Phone finally ahead of BlackBerry – IDC

Previously, a month ago, IDC released statistics for the whole mobile phone market, which highlighted the smartphones overtaking feature phones for the first time ever in the first quarter of 2013. Now, they have revealed the marketshare of smarphone platforms, which makes for a very interesting analysis altogether. Android has kept on soaring with a 79.5% change YoY, and a massive 75% marketshare, a number even the yesteryear Symbian failed to achieve with its massive presence. The total shipments of 162.1 million devices is in line with what Google announced last night, of the 900 million activations till date.

Apple, while at a distant second place with just 17.3% marketshare rules the smartphone market together with Android, taking over 92.3% of the whole smartphone market. The surprising addition and change here is from Windows Phone, which has finally leapfrogged BlackBerry with a measly 3.2% marketshare and a whopping 133.3% growth change YoY.

Apple, Samsung top tablet vendors again, Android tablets grab 56.5% market share in Q1 2013: IDC

Apple and Samsung are once again the leading tablet vendors by shipments in Q1 2013, according to a report by Research Firm IDC (International Data Corporation). The worldwide tablet market grew  142.4% year-over-year in the Q1 2013, with shipments of 49.2 million, compared to 20.3 million units in the Q1 2012. Apple shipped 19.5 million units of iPad in Q4 2012, beating IDC’s forecast of  18.7 million units. This is a 65.3 percent increase year-over-year, but the market share is down to 39.6% compared to 43.6 percent in the last quarter. Apple reported quarterly revenue of $43.6 billion and quarterly net profit of $9.5 billion in their last quarter. Smartphones outship Feature phones for the first time ever – IDC

International Data Corporation(IDC), the market research firm that usually outs numbers for the mobile phone market every quarter has something new to say this quarter. According to them, the first quarter of 2013 has been the first time ever in the history of the mobile phone market that the Smartphones have outshipped feature phones. The whole worldwide mobile phone market seems to have grown 4% this quarter. Samsung still remains the leader in the mobile phone market dominating sales in both smartphones as well as feature phones.

Samsung, Nokia and Apple are the leading Mobile vendors by shipments in Q1 2012, according to a report by Research Firm IDC (International Data Corporation). The Worldwide mobile phone market declined 1.5% year over year in the Q1 2012 with worldwide shipments of 398.4 million units compared to 404.3 million units in the first quarter of 2011. IDC: Smartphone market hits all-time high in Q4 2011, Apple and Samsung top vendors by shipments


Apple and Samsung are the top Smartphone vendors by shipments  in Q4 2011 according to a report by Research Firm IDC (International Data Corporation).  The worldwide smartphone market grew 54.7% year over year in Q4 2011. Shipment volumes reached 491.4 million units in 2011 that is up by 61.3% compared to 304.7 million units in 2010. IDC : Mobile Phone Market Q2 2011 – Nokia, Samsung, LG top mobile phone vendors by shipments


According to report by Research Firm IDC (International Data Corporation) the Worldwide mobile phone market grew 11.3% year over year in the 2nd quarter of 2011 (2Q11) with the worldwide shipment of 328.4 million units. IDC : Worldwide Smartphone Market grew 56.7%

According to report by Research Firm IDC(International Data Corporation) , the Worldwide Smartphone Market saw a 56.7% growth year over year.54.7  million Converged Mobile Devices or Smartphones were shipped my Handset makers in the first Quarter of 2010. And these make up for only 1.8% of the total mobile phone shipments worldwide. As you can see in the chart below the Top 5 smartphone phone makers based on volumes and market share are Nokia with a 39.3% share followed by Blackberry maker RIM at 19.4%. Apple iPhone shipments have more than doubled and it has 16.1 % of the market share. HTC is at a distant 4th followed by Motorola.
