Samsung Galaxy A series devices to support LTE connectivity

Samsung is working on three devices under its A series – SM-A300SM-A500 and SM-A700. Specs and leaks of the first two devices have already been leaked in photos and benchmarks. Now, an important detail regarding the phone is being revealed by SamMobile.

The report states that all the three A series devices will feature LTE connectivity. A feature mostly seen in high end devices, LTE support will also come to the Samsung A3 which is the low end device among the three phones. Samsung will likely name these three devices as Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 with each being priced between $350-$400, $400-450 and $450-$500 respectively.

Moving on, Galaxy A7 will be launched in selected countries unlike the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 which will be up for a global rollout, said the report. It speculates that Galaxy A7 will be sold in selected countries as the device might give a tough competition to its recently launched Galaxy Alpha thereby eating its sales.

No official word about when will the three devices will be released is known, however there is a possibility that they will be announced sometime in the third-quarter.

Microsoft Surface 2 with LTE announced, priced at $679 for the 64 GB version

Surface 2 LTE 64 GB priceAfter confirming the presence of a mobile-enabled version in the works when launching the Surface 2, the Redmond giant has finally taken the wraps off Microsoft Surface 2 with LTE 4G on the AT&T network, retailing at a price of 679$ for the 64 GB version. The Surface was Microsoft’s first play as a PC hardware company. The first product, called Surface RT, was largely a flop due to poor usability and performance, and even took a write down in the company’s earnings. Surface 2, the successor, was launched almost an year later, with good reviews and better reception from consumers, but still not as popular as Microsoft would like. Touted as a portable productive machine, the Surface 2 in its initial variants lacked a LTE chip for mobile data, which was apparently a highly requested feature, and hence we are seeing it now, in the form of the slightly modified LTE variant of the Surface 2.

Samsung is in talks with several carriers to introduce its LTE-Advanced version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. LTE Advanced 4G is an upgrade from the conventional LTE networks deployed currently and offers a data transmission speed at up to double the speeds of standard 4G networks.

Intel boasts its first LTE solution in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 inch

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 inch was just announced yesterday along with the Galaxy Tab 3 8 inch version. One of the main takeaways from the announcement is the presence of an Intel chip inside the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 inch version. Intel was particularly proud of the fact and boasted about its first low power LTE implementation for the same, in its blog. Sporting a Intel Z2560 “CloverTrail+” chip, the device has connectivity powered by the Intel XMM7160 multi mode LTE modem in some markets.

Qualcomm unveils new Snapdragon 400 Quad Core chip MSM8926, with in-built multi mode LTE

Qualcomm, one of the leading chip manufacturers for mobile devices, has just unveiled a new variant of the Snapdragon 400 chipset, with support for Quad Core processors and multi mode 3G/4G LTE connectivity. This move enables Qualcomm to capture some of the lost low-end chip marketshare that has been recently been inundated with chipsets from companies like MediaTek. The MSM8926 chip, as it is codenamed, adds support for quad core Cortex A7 processors and mainly, multi mode 3G/4G LTE connectivity, which will enable mass market devices to sport LTE modems at very low prices.

Reliance to test voice services on 4G networks

Coming from an Economic Times article, it looks like Reliance Industries limited (RIL) is all set to get approval from the telecom department (DoT) for testing voice services on its yet-to-be-launched 4G networks. This comes as a surprise as Airtel has been the only 4G player as of now, with limited network distribution.

LTE capable Medfield chips coming soon says Intel

Intel’s smartphone powering Medfield chips have been curiously missing from the US market having seen a launch in India, China, Russia and the UK. It turns out that this might be due to their lack of support for LTE. Sumeet Syal, Marketing Chief at Intel, said in an interview that current x86 SoC’s will not support the high speed network but a modem solution will be available by the end of the year.

4G LTE Speed Test on EE featuring the Galaxy S3 LTE and Ascend P1 LTE

Today’s announcement by EE on the arrival of 4G LTE in the UK heralds a new era in this Britain’s telecommunication industry. It’s been a long time waiting, and judging by the initial hands on demonstration, it seems that it will be worth the wait.

Huawei’s Ascend P1 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 were two of the few handsets on display at the EE press conference today. Initial speed test shows that the devices were capable of achieving and maintaining 25+Mbps download and 12+Mbps upload speed, a fair upgrade over T-Mobile’s current 3G network.

No price plans has been announced yet. The rollout of EE’s 4G LTE network will begin this year and they aim to cover 1/3rd of the population by the end of the year.
