Alipay, the top Chinese online payment solution company and part of the Alibaba Group has acquired a 25% stake in homegrown smartphone maker Micromax, as per The Economic Times.

If there is one major concern with selfies, it’s trying to look good in them. In our video earlier, we showed you how front facing cameras these days are now almost on par with the main cameras, with the example being the Micromax Canvas Selfie. The Canvas Selfie has the same 13 megapixel camera unit at the front and at the back, so the earlier problem of having better detail is now solved, but again, with it comes the concern of too much detail. You might have noticed the auto-beautification features in a lot of phones, which apply some post-processing after face detection, but with Micromax outright calling it a Canvas “Selfie”, these features are built right into the camera UI. SoftBank eyeing 20% stake in Micromax for almost $1 billion
SoftBank is currently looking forward to acquire a 20% stake in Micromax, according to a report from Reuters. A group of investors led by Japanese telecom giant will make an investment of $1 billion in the Indian mobile manufacturer Micromax.

Micromax has confirmed its plans to launch its Android One smartphone on September 15, the same day as the Google’s event in India. It will be exclusively available on Amazon.in. Earlier today Karbonn teased its Android One smartphone launch exclusively on Snapdeal and Spice teased its Android One device, which will be exclusively available on Flipkart on September 15th.

Micromax sends invite to launch a new smartphone on September 8
Micromax has sent out press invites to launch a new smartphone on September in New Delhi. The event was supposed to happen on September 1st, but it got postponed. The invitation doesn’t reveal anything apart from the time, date and location, but the company today teased a new smartphone on their Facebook page back that reveal few details about the smartphone. It also says that it would launch exclusively on Snapdeal.

Indian tablet market soars by 9% in Q2, 2014: Report
The Indian tablet market grew by 9% to 0.86 million units in the quarter ended June, according to a latest report from market researcher International Data Corp. (IDC). IDC said that market indicated early signs of recovery in Q2 2014 after taking a sharp hit in the past couple of quarters.

Micromax overtakes Samsung to become leading mobile phone vendor in India in Q2 2014
Micromax is the leading mobile phone vendor in India based on shipments, according to a report from CounterPoint Research. Last week’s Canalys report revealed that Motorola overtook Nokia to become the fourth largest smartphone vendor in India in Q2 2014. According to the CounterPoint Research report, Indian mobile phone market grew 2% annually and smartphone segment grew 68% annually.
