LinkedIn has announced that is has surpassed 300 million registered users from 200 countries across the globe. Out of these 300 million members, 67% actually comes from outside the United States. The professional social network touted that it has added more than 23 million members since December 31, 2013.

With an aim to pump up its revenues further, Twitter has introduced app-install ads on its mobile platform. Dubbed as “Mobile App Promotion Suite”, new mobile app promotion suite that will allow advertisers to promote mobile app installs both on and off-Twitter.
According to a MBIT index study conducted by Nokia Siemens Networks, the 3G infrastructure provider for most of the networks in India, it has been revealed that the mobile data usage in the country has almost doubled in the period of December 2011 – 2012. The main reason for the increased usage in mobile data is attributed to 3 times increase in usage of 3G mobile data by consumers, mainly from, what operators call, the “A” circles. Apparently, a regular 3G user consumes an average of 434 MB per month while the average amount of data consumed by the 2G user is 115 MB per month. Ultimately, there has been a 92% total increase in the usage of mobile data, with a whopping 196% increase in 3G usage and a 66% increase in 2G usage.

Intel today announced the next step of its mobile strategy. The Silvermont architecture is a complete departure from the Clover Trail and Clover Trail+ chips that Intel has been pushing since 2008. With a switch to yearly update cycles, the company hopes to be much more competitive in the extremely hot mobile chipset segment.

Jolla Mobile, the startup born from the ashes of the MeeGo team at Nokia showed off the UI for their brand new mobile OS today at the Slush conference. While there’s a lot more yet to be revealed, the OS itself is based on the open source Mer core. The interface is heavily inspired by the much praised Harmattan UI on the Nokia N9 and places a lot of emphasis on single handed usage.
Mozilla’s Firefox browser and OS on Android also includes a separate marketplace app. The application is now accessible to users of the Android Firefox browser. The marketplace includes a number of apps, utilities and games meant for the upcoming mobile operating system by Mozilla. Predictably, the number of applications is very low.
