Nokia Lumia 925: What’s New in the Amber Update?

We have been playing around with the Nokia Lumia 925 for a while, and had unboxed it to provide a first look of the device, but there is a lot more to talk about. While the 4.5 inch AMOLED screen, the six element lens and the new design and build are the major hardware changes from the 920, the software here is the star, called as the Nokia Amber update. The Amber update, is actually additive to the Windows Phone GDR2 release that brings some minor improvements to all Windows Phone devices. The Amber update though, brings a lot of usable improvements exclusively to Nokia Lumia devices. Lets go through every one of them.

Nokia Lumia 925 Unboxing and First Impressions

“Too fat and heavy” some shouted, and Nokia listened. The Nokia Lumia 925 fixes the two biggest complaints of then prospective Lumia 920 buyers, its thickness and weight. While the 925 does have some more features(or lack thereof) for differentiation, it was mostly like a hotfix patch for the Lumia 920. We had checked out the device earlier at the launch event in London. It looked a lot different and shied away from the colourful Lumia legacy with a more conservative look with Nokia having brought back aluminium into its fold again. But personally, not having had a personal hands on experience with the Lumia 925(unlike Varun) made me skeptical of the design, until now. Yes, the ritualistic unboxing shattered some pre-conceived notions of mine. We have thus documented the box contents and my initial impressions of the device in this video, watch –

Nokia Lumia 920 receives a price cut, now available for Rs. 32,639/-

The Espoo company’s flagship has been around for a while, and was retailing at quite high a price. It was priced at around Rs. 36k – Rs. 38k in several places. It has now received a substantial price cut, at a time when other flagships like the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 have made their foray into the Indian market. Now retailing at Rs. 32, 639 at the Nokia India Online Store and for lesser elsewhere, Nokia hopes to attract more sales of the device in India. Equipped with a 8.7 megapixel PureView camera and a lot of other innovations like the wireless charging for example, the Lumia 920 comes with attractively coloured options.

Nokia Lumia 925 vs HTC One Quick Comparison

The Nokia Lumia 925 launched the day before yesterday, invoking various reactions from the internet, including ours, which is detailed in the hands on post here. This new Lumia device with a metal frame loses a lot of weight and has slimmed down, mainly for people who were holding out on the 920 because of its bulkiness. We had explained the differences between it and the 920 here, which would make sense of this device’s release. At the event, once we were done with the Lumia 925 photo gallery, we were looking to compare it with various flagship devices. Nokia Creative Studio gets a massive update for Lumia WP8 devices, we go hands on!

Along with all the Lumia 925 stuff that happened yesterday, Nokia revealed some interesting software additions and updates in the announcement. While the highlight was on the Nokia Smart Camera lens, the picture editing app exclusive for Lumia devices, also called as the Nokia Creative Studio received a rather huge update yesterday. The new update comes with the version number 5.0.7.6, and is available for download here. The update is available for all Windows Phone 8 devices and introduces various new features. Hipstamatic brings Instagram sharing to the Nokia Lumia

We are live from the Nokia Lumia 925 event in London, and Nokia just announced, along with the Lumia 925 that Hipstamatic, a popular photo sharing app on iOS, is coming to Windows Phone and it is going to be one of the first official apps on the Windows phone store that can share directly to your instagram account. The app is called Hipstamatic Oggl and has various filters and a beautiful camera UI, with features you would expect from a photo filters app. This app recently launched in iOS and it is now on Windows Phone already. It has its own community and that’s the term “Oggl” refers to, you can share, like and comment on pictures.

Nokia makes the Lumia 928 all but official with a video comparison teaser

The Nokia Lumia 928 was unofficially confirmed on the official site yesterday, and most details have been leaked out about this device which is expected to launch on the 15th of May. Nokia have gone ahead one more step and have released a video comparison teaser boasting of the OIS capable 8.7 MP PureView camera on the Lumia 928, which is known to sport a Xenon flash in addition to LED. The video comparison is between the Nokia Lumia 928, the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Apple iPhone 5 titled “New Nokia Lumia with PureView takes on “The Hurricane””. Foursquare for Windows Phone 8 gets a refresh, new UI and new features

Foursquare, the leading location based social network has received a major refresh for the Windows Phone 8 platform, with a new UI, new features and more. The official app has been around in the Windows Phone marketplace for quite a while now and it was revealed that Nokia and Microsoft are working with Foursquare to bring a new experience to the Windows Phone platform and here it is. The app, boasting millions of users is primarily used for exploring nearby places and checking in to places so as to create a history of geotags with the added bonus of points and badges.

Nokia Lumia launch event scheduled for May 14 in London

Nokia has sent out an invite to several media outlets for a launch event in London , UK happening on May 14.The invite says that the “Nokia Lumia Story Continues” on May 14th. The previous major Lumia launch happened at MWC in Barcelona where the company launched the Lumia 520 and Lumia 720 which are already available in India.

Nokia Lumia 520 Review

For users looking at smartphones in the budget segment, clunky and underpowered Android phones have been the only option till now. Sure, Nokia had a few Windows Phone 7 devices too but the OS was half baked and it was pretty hard to recommend them to users.
