Since BT confirmed they were in talks to buy EE and not O2, there’s been a lot of rumours that Three UK owner Hutchinson Whampoa Limited (HWL) would attempt to acquire O2 in a bid to strengthen its UK position. This morning the company have issued a press release confirming they are in exclusive talks to buy O2 UK from Spanish parent Telefónica, S.A. in a deal worth £9.25 billion. UK networks pledge £5 billion to fix coverage issues

The UK Government have announced a major landmark deal with the four major mobile networks to improve mobile coverage in the UK. Under the terms of the deal, the four networks – Vodafone, Three, O2 and EE – have guaranteed to spend £5 billion together to offer guaranteed mobile coverage to 90% of premises across the UK by 2017. BT in talks with O2 and EE over own mobile network

British Telecom is allegedly already in talks with UK network operator EE following the alleged approach by Telefonica to form a “strategic partnership” that would see BT buy the company’s UK operator O2. According to sources cited by Reuters, BT is currently in “early stage” talks with EE over a major deal which may yet present a challenge to Telefonica’s master plan. BT to buy O2 UK from Telefonica?

UK operator BT is rumoured to be in talks to buy O2 UK with O2’s parent company Telefonica seeking a strategic partnership with BT that would see it sell its mobile network in return for a 20% stake. According to a report on El Confidencial, Telefonica’s CEO César Alierta is exploring the partnership with BT to create a European Giant and whilst talks are at an advanced stage, “there is nothing concrete yet”. O2 launches data sharer plans for individuals and families

O2 has followed in the footsteps of its rival networks and today has launched data sharer plans for individuals and families in the UK. The new plans, which start at £6 per month, offer up to 8GB data which can be shared across multiple devices or between family members. The Sharer Plan and Family Sharer Plan uses a customer’s data bundle and allows them to share it either across multiple devices and smart technology or between devices owned by different members of the family. TalkTalk drops Vodafone for O2 4G

TalkTalk has announced that it is dropping its partnership with Vodafone in favour of a similar deal with O2’s parent company Telefonica. In an announcement, TalkTalk said that the deal will allow it to access O2’s 2G, 3G and 4G network and the change represents a blow for Vodafone as the telecoms operator war rises another few degrees. EE says UK national roaming is a ‘flawed concept’
