Opera Mini surpasses 50 million users in India

Opera Software has announced that Opera Mini browser has more than 50 million users in India. The mobile browser is now the third most popular app in India, behind messaging app WhatsApp and social media network Facebook.

India migrating from feature phones to Android smartphones: Opera Report

India is the fastest growing smartphone market in the world. The country has seen a rise in migration to smartphones from basic feature phones, according to the State of the Android Mobile Web report for India by Opera Software.

The report said that India has the largest Opera Mini user base in the world that has increased by 25% over the past year, while its smartphone user base surged by 120%. Meanwhile, the Android smartphones user base has increased by an impressive 160%, said the report.

Opera Software and Micromax have teamed up to pre-install Opera Mini browser on all Micromax Android devices. So far, Opera mini comes pre-installed on about 50 devices inclusive of smartphones and tablets from Micromax.

Opera has also added 2 more OEMs, Symphony Mobile in Bangladesh and Colors Mobile in Nepal in South Asia region. Opera partnered with 7 Indian OEMs Celkon, Karbonn, Lava. UCWeb jumps over Opera to become India’s most used mobile browser

UCWeb has announced that it has become India’s most used mobile browser with a market share of 31%. Based on statistics by research firm Statcounter, the company reports that it has now surpassed the erstwhile champion ie Opera Mobile.

The company has achieved this within a span of just 3 years and is introducing a range of interesting features to provide a lot of added value to users. It’s partnership with Trend Micro announced in May 2013 is one such move that is aimed to provide enhanced security related features like alerts for malicious content.
