Opera 14 for Android

Opera 14 for Android is finally out of beta and is available from the Google Play. Opera released the version 14 beta back in March that brought the new WebKit engine replacing Opera’s own Presto engine. The new Opera browser is based on Chromium 26 engine but the  Chromium/Blink-based browser technology is not available yet. Opera says that it would be available in future as they plan to stay closely in sync with the Chromium development cycle with frequent updates. Opera acquires competing mobile browser, Skyfire for $150 million

Opera is well known for its mobile browsers that promise to compress data using the cloud. The company has acquired its chief competitor, Skyfire, for $150 million in a bid to gain access to key technologies around mobile video compression. California based Skyfire is well known for its Rocket Optimizer Software that helps optimize video and other multimedia content for delivery over congested cell towers.

Opera launches Opera Mini Next for Android, BlackBerry, Symbian and Java phones

Opera has launched Opera Mini Next, a new Opera Mini app that enables users preview the new features in upcoming release of Opera Mini that is still under development. The Opera Mini Next, version 7 has Smart Page, unlimited speed dials and more. This is a separate app, so you can use Opera Mini Next alongside the regular release of Opera Mini. Samsung added Opera Mini to their Java App Store this Diwali, and it became most downloaded app within 1 month. Co-branded version of Opera Mini launched for Vodafone Customers


Vodafone Essar and Opera Software has joined hands to offer Opera Mini browser for the Vodafone customers in India. This would let the users to browse the Internet better and faster and it also comes with customized Speed Dial shortcuts for easy access to unique Vodafone Essar features. Opera has announced that the Opera Mobile would come pre-loaded on the Motorola’s Motokey XT in Brazil. Jon von Tetzchner leaving Opera Software

It’s actually sad to hear that Opera co-founder and current Advisor Jon von Tetzchner is leaving the company . I had the pleasure meeting Jon in 2009 and he’s a pretty knowledgeable guy and a pioneer in the internet space .He was in India recently for a Opera Meetup. He seems pretty tight lipped about this future plans, but we wish him luck !. Opera Software is the company behind Opera Mini and Mobile.

Opera Software has grand plans for CTIA 2011 starting next week in DisneyLand .. err Orlando , Florida. The browser maker is going to launch the next versions of the world’s most popular mobile browsers -Opera Mini 6 and Opera Mobile 11 at the event. Opera Mobile Browser for Tablets coming at CES

The folks at Opera Software have shown a little preview of the upcoming Opera Mobile browser for tablets. They would be showcasing the first public preview of Opera for tablets at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week. While we see an Android version in the video . we would love a native iPad app too !
