A closer look at the HTC One M9’s design

htc-one-m9-design-up-close

Before announcing the One M9 at an event today in Barcelona, HTC was keen to emphasize design, with a video that detailed the company’s previous efforts. Starting with the M7 and eventually leading up to its latest flagship device, the video was meant to tell you only one thing – HTC is really serious about design. This has been evident in their products ever since the M7, the leading design that has trickled down really well in their portfolio, even with different materials in devices like the Desire 820. The Re camera is also an example of good design, where ergonomics have taken higher preference. In the One M9’s case, it’s metal. As we had mentioned in our hands on, the One M9 is a product of refinement, with subtle changes in design that easily escape attention. So here are some photos that give you a closer look at the HTC One M9.

HTC One M9 Hands On and First Impressions

htc-one-m9-lead-shot-mwc-15

The HTC One M9 has finally been made official here at a separate press event in Barcelona, just ahead of the Mobile World Congress. For HTC, the event is not just about the One M9, it’s about a bold new step they are taking, by revisiting their roots as a partner-company. But at the same time, the Taiwanese manufacturer is not letting its guard down in the smartphone space, which is slowly starting to get saturated with lack of useful innovation or differentiation. So, HTC has chosen to evolve its flagship in the most sensible way, by fixing the major flaws of its previous year’s flagship, and then some more.

LG G Watch Photo Gallery

LG G Watch-9

LG was one of the first manufacturers to announce a Smartwatch based on Android Wear, but yesterday, at the Google I/O developers conference, the device was made available for sale, making it the first Android Wear Smartwatch in the market along with the Samsung Gear live. This being LG’s first watch, unlike Samsung, the approach, although bland, is a bit different. Priced at $229 in the US and Rs. 14,999 in India, where it is currently on pre-order, the LG G watch makes for an interesting first look at the Android Wear ecosystem. Lets take a photo walkthrough of the device in action, but before that, here is our hands on experience of this device, shot on video –

Samsung Gear Live-8

Samsung, though not part of the initial list of partners associated with Android Wear, surprised everyone by announcing the Gear Live yesterday, which has already gone on sale in the US today, and is no on pre-order in India, for a price of Rs. 15, 900. Following the design philosophy of its other Gear devices, this Android Wear based Smartwatch will be sold along with the LG G watch. Both the Korean giants have their own first Android Wear based Smartwatches out, but lets focus on the Gear live here, which adds the unique functionality to measure heart rate using the hear rate sensor on its back. It looks and feels pretty similar to the other Gear watches, unsurprisingly, so lets take a photo walkthrough of this device, straight from the I/O developer event in San Francisco.

LG G Pro 2 Photo Gallery

LG G Pro 2 -8

Earlier this year, LG showed off its next large format device ie the G Pro 2. Launched in India earlier this month, the phone brings high end specifications and a giant sized display that is well suited for multimedia consumption. Powered by a 2.26Ghz Snapdragon 800 processor paired with 3GB of RAM, the G Pro 2 packs enough firepower to drive any game or high resolution content that you might throw at it. Unlike the LG G2 that had absolutely stellar battery life, we feel that the 3200 mAh unit here wasn’t entirely adequate which is in all likelihood because of the large 5.9 inch panel. While we work on our full review of the phone, we decided to slap together a photo gallery for your perusal. Got questions? Let us know in the comments section. HTC’s design chief might be moving on to greener pastures, but he sure has left quite a legacy behind. After the original HTC One won accolades for its pleasing design and quality of build, the Taiwan manufacturer has one upped itself with the new HTC One M8. The design language might be almost exactly the same as its predecessor, but with minor changes in the build, and tweaks to the already good design, HTC has carved yet another well designed smartphone for the premium market. Lets take a hardware walkthrough of this device in photos to see how it looks in front of the camera.

Sony Xperia E1 Dual Photo Gallery and Hardware Walkthrough

The Sony Xperia E1 Dual is the Japanese company’s improvisation of its long time low end play. The Xperia Tipo Dual and the earlier Xperia E used to occupy this segment, and keeping up with the times, the E1 dual will now occupy the place of a low end smartphone from Sony. Armed with a dedicated Walkman button and audio enhancements with XLoud and ClearPhase, the E1 dual aims to satisfy the young hip smartphone buyer who listens to a lot of music. Something tells us this is familiar territory for the company. With a plastic body and design elements that Sony has only recently pushed forward, we give you a tour of the phone in photos.

Gionee Elife S5.5 Photo Gallery

Gionee S5.5 -1

Gionee had introduced the world’s slimmest Smartphone, the Elife S5.5, to India, at a huge event in Goa today. Powered by a MediaTek Octa Core processor, the Elife S5.5 will sell for a price of Rs. 22,999, but that tiny detail aside, the device is all about design and engineering. The svelte frame, machined at a stunningly thin 5.55 mm of thickness makes the device look really appealing to see as well as touch. Sporting a 5 inch 1080p screen, the device looks like a sleek slab from the front as well as the sides. It’s styled well, with a minimalistic approach to design, and evidences of it being too thin show up, especially with the camera module. The frame itself is an engineering marvel, as we had seen when we went hands on with the phone at the Mobile World Congress event, where it was introduced to the world. Today, we had our chance to have a look at it again, but this time, without the intrusive cables. Skip past the break for some photos of this gorgeous device.

Nokia XL Dual SIM Android Phone Photo Gallery

nokia-xl-dual-sim-android-photos-3

Nokia has surprised every one of us with the launch of their first Android phones, the Nokia X, X+ and XL. All the three are based on a very similar design language, but differ somewhat in internals. The X+ has more RAM and a micro SD card in the box, the XL is very similar to the X+ but has a bigger screen, that’s basically it. The Nokia XL has a 5 inch IPS WVGA screen with blacks that look decently dark and colours that are unwashed. With a good large screen and decent internals, does Nokia have a winner in the cheap phablet category? While we ponder on that, here is a bunch of photos straight from the Mobile World Congress 2014 event we are live from.
