HTC reports Q4 2013 financial results, revenue drops to NT$42.9 billion

HTC just published its financial reports for the third quarter of 2014 and has unfortunately reported yet another decline in sales. The company reported revenues of NT$42.9 billion. This is a substantial year on year drop from the NT$60 billion reported in Q4 2012. The 28% drop amounts to a drop of about USD 0.6 billion YoY in terms of revenue.

HTC’s operating margin was reported as -3.7 percent with a quarterly profit of NT $0.31 billion. HTC has forecast even lower revenue for Q1 2014. The company expects to make about NT$35 billion in the first quarter of 2014. This can be accounted to the lack of new launches especially in the upper end segment. Facebook Q4 2013 results out, mobile advertising accounts for 53% revenues

Facebook released its financial results for Q4 2013 today and the numbers show a steady rise. The extremely popular social network posted revenues to the tune of $2.59 billion compared to $1.59 billion last year. Nokia’s Q4 2013 financial results disappoint, intense competition at the lower end to be blamed

The transition of Nokia’s Device and Services division over to Microsoft is about to be completed and the Finnish company has revealed its financial results for Q4 2013. While there has been an operating profit of Eur 408 million, this was mainly because of its NSN equipment business. Interestingly, the company declined to share numbers for sales of Windows Phone running devices however it did mention that there has been a decline over the previous quarter.

Nokia has blamed intense competition at the lower end of the spectrum for the drop in sales of both smart devices and mobile phones. Increasingly, it looks like the decision to hand over device operations to Microsoft was a good one from a financial perspective. HTC’s unaudited 4Q 2013 results show small net profits amidst operating losses

HTC posted its first losses last quarter, even after the good performance of its flagship device – the One, and was expected to post huge losses this quarter too. Apparently, the Beats buy back seems to have provided some much needed cash for HTC, which has translated directly into small net profits for the company, after taxes. Today, HTC has posted its unaudited Q4 2013 results, with the numbers coming in at NT$42.89 billion(1.43 billion USD) of revenue with operating losses of NT$ 1.56 billion(52 million USD). However, as mentioned earlier, the company made back some of the money it lost on Beats earlier, with 31 million NT$(10.3 million USD) in net profits. These are currently “unaudited” and are usually published as guidance to shareholders before the real deal that will have the entire data.

Tablets to outship PCs for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2013 – IDC

Tablets had been somewhat of a conundrum before Apple came up with the iPad. Only then, it made sense for people to approve and acknowledge a different kind of a computer that swiftly replaced the netbooks of our era. But was it ever enough to replace or outsell the traditional PC and Laptops? Well, according to IDC, the company that constantly releases numbers on the Smartphone market, the last quarter of this year will mark the first time ever that the tablets will outship Traditional PCs, including Desktops as well as Laptops. The above chart shows just that.
