India registers 32% decline in tablet shipments for Q1 2014: IDC

Poor user demand has resulted into a sluggish start of the 2014 for the Indian tablet market. As per recent report from IDC, tablet shipments in India dropped by 32.8 per cent for the first quarter of 2014 at 0.78 million units.

Xiaomi sells 380,000 devices in a few hours on Singles day in China

Xiaomi, the company that has recently been in the spotlight for a wide variety of reasons, has just sold 380,000 devices in just a few hours on Singles day in China. A quick TIL fact – Singles day in China is a massive day for shopping, like, for example Diwali in India or Thanksgiving, in the US. It has been reported that this day is perhaps better(in terms of sales) than the Cyber Monday that the US observes. The day, also known as the “Anti-Valentines” day, majorly consisting of singles from all around China having parties and such, spurs shopping of around 2 billion US dollars all over the country, and Xiaomi seems to have nicely stocked up for the demand, as you can see from the image above, taken by the International Chief and previously VP of Android, Hugo Barra.

HTC sales touch $970 million, its best month since June 2012

HTC has revealed its monthly revenues for May 2013 and it might be considered the first sign of recovery for the ailing smartphone manufacturer. The company posted sales worth $970 million which is just 3% lower than what it last reported in May 2012.

Apple increases orders for iPad mini, projected to sell 12 million minis by year end

Previously the iPad Mini was expected to sell around 10 million, but now DigiTimes is reporting that Apple has increased the orders from 8 to 10 million, which means that Apple might be selling around 12 million of the 7.9″ iPad Minis.

Smartphone sales rise 47 percent as worldwide phone sales go down 3 percent

Third quarter of the year is usually really bad for mobile phone manufacturers as there are no huge celebrations where people buy devices and it is also the time where new devices are unveiled which will be launched during Christmas. So people tend to wait for Christmas time where all the mobile manufacturers try to bring in their best devices. Gartner’s research shows that mobile phone sales has gone down 3% compared to last year but in the same research smaprtphone sales has gone up 47%.

Samsung reports Q2 2012 profits as $5.86 billion

Samsung just reported its Q2 earnings for 2012. The South Korea based company managed to rack up an operating profit of $5.86 billion which was largely due to growth in its smartphone segment. That’s a whopping 79% year on year increase.

Over 10 million Galaxy SIII sales since launch says Samsung

Back in June, Samsung had announced that the Galaxy SIII would reach 10 million sales by July and it seems that they’ve reached that goal right on schedule. Shin Jying Kyun of Samsung has announced that the Galaxy SIII crossed the 10 million sales mark since its launch on May 29th.

Samsung Galaxy S2 sales cross 20 million units

Samsung has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S2 sales (to channels and distributors) have surpassed 20 million units worldwide, 10 months after the launch. The 4.3-inch Android phone with super AMOLED Plus display was launched in Korea last April and later launched in other Asian and European countries Worldwide. 1 million units of Galaxy S2 were sold in Korea in the first 30 days. AT&T CEO says ‘Tremendous demand’ for free iPhone 3GS

AT&T noted that it sold a gross of 4.8 million smartphones in the interim of the third quarter, 2.7 million of them being iPhone activations. Highly astounding for a phone, that was released in June, 2009. After the debut of the iPhone 4S, Apple proclaimed that the 3GS was free with an AT&T contract and that the iPhone 4 would plummet to $99 with a contract.
