In a bid to enhance song recognition, Apple has added Shazam integration to Siri. Apple’s intelligent voice assistant will identify the song from Shazam’s database. If the user asks “What song is playing”, Siri will identify the song and ask the user to buy it from iTunes. This feature was previously leaked last month.

Apple has partnered Shazam to work on a song identification tool for iOS 8, according to reports from Bloomberg. The feature will allow users to identify a song using their iPhone or iPad’s microphone. The report states that users will be able to access the song identification feature via Apple’s digital voice assistant, Siri. Hence, Siri will answer once a user asks “What song is playing” as it will generate the data from Shazam which has more than 90 million users.

Google Now is one of the main features which debuted with Android 4.1, and is a direct competitor to iOS’s Siri. Google has been concentrating on this piece of software from a long time and has been updating it with more cards and features and just recently Google updated their support page which showed glimpses of Google Now widgets.

One developer @Plamoni has managed to create a Proxy Server for hacking around Siri – the virtual assistant found on the Apple iPhone 4S. Since he shared the source code on github another developer put together a twitter plugin which lets you tweet using Siri. Developers at iPhone development house Applidium have done a thorough investigation into the security encryption behind Siri and have worked out a way to get it running on non – iPhone devices as well ! Now before you jump to conclusions, it is important to note that a valid iPhone 4S identification string is needed to authenticate which might work out for a few test situations but would likely result in a ban if thousands of requests were sent.

Just a few days into the iPhone 5 4S release and iOS 5 roll out , a group of enterprising ‘hackers’ have already begun preliminary work on porting Siri to the iPhone 4. Understandably it is still early days for the process as the phone can be seen to be pretty sluggish with Siri onboard.
iFans reports that members of the jailbreak community have already begun work to port Siri to other iOS devices. Yesterday Apple announced its next generation iPhone which integrates the erstwhile free Siri app at a deeper level with the OS.
