Microsoft has updated Skype app for Windows Phone with a drawing tool that allows users to draw images and text on photos before sharing. The feature is arriving first on Windows Phone and Skype has not mentioned anything about iOS and Android release.

Skype 5.0 for Android adds contact syncing support

Skype has updated Android app with support for syncing contacts from your phone’s address book. The 5.0 update will prompt users to add their phone number and verify it. It will use your contact list and find users with Skype accounts. After verifying your number the Skype app will use it to allow other users to find you.

Microsoft to debut Skype Translator app with Real-Time Speech Translation by the end of 2014

In a bid to connect people from different continents with different language, Microsoft is bringing real-time speech translation functionality to Skype by the end of this year. The feature was demonstrated by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at Re/code’s Code Conference in the US.

Skype video messaging graduates to release on every platform except Windows Phone

Skype for iPhone and iPad 4.6

The video messaging service from Skype has been lurking in devices as a beta feature for quite a while now, but has finally gained the official status and launched on major platforms like Windows, iOS, Android and Mac. The voicemail-like feature is present even on the Blackberry devices now, but surprisingly has evaded Windows Phone, which is disappointing. The video messaging feature is completely free of charge and is available for all accounts effective immediately. We think it is a nice feature on the whole, and here is a demo video explaining the usability –

Skype pulled for Nokia Lumia 610 : Poor performance cited as reason

The Nokia 610 is one of the first phones in the market to run Windows Phone Tango. The latest version of the fledgling operating system is supposed to allow it to run on phones with lower hardware specifications than the current chassis spec. However it seems we might be facing the first signs of app fragmentation on the platform.

Skype , the popular VOIP service , has an app available for Windows Phone devices including lower spec phones like the Lumia 610. Nokia has today pulled the app for the Lumia 610 from the marketplace. Poor performance was cited as the chief reason. Unless Skype does major rewrites to the app to enable it to perform better , we might never see the app on the 610 and similar devices. Skype for Windows Phone out of Beta, now available for Download

Skype has finally arrived for the Windows Phone devices at the Windows Phone Marketplace. Skype launched the beta version of the app at the Mobile World Congress earlier this February.  The Skype app lets you make free audio and video calls to your Skype contacts over 3G and 4G or Wi-Fi. Skype for Android has been updated to version 2.6.0.75 that brings option to share photos and videos from your device. This version also comes with improved battery life and video quality to utilize the large display on the devices with NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset. Skype for Android has been updated to version 2.5.0.108 that brings 2-way video calling support to 14 more Android phones and tablets.The new version also supports video calling in some of the Android 2.2 (Froyo) devices.
