Report: AT&T to be exclusive carrier for Amazon smartphone

Amazon is scheduled to host an event on 18th June where it is expected to reveal its upcoming smartphone. The device will distinguish itself from the competition through the use of a special 3D interface that will make use of retina tracking technology.

The technology will allow users to navigate the interface through the use of four cameras embedded along the corners of the phone. This will allow for a glasses free experience. The device will be revealed at the company’s event in Seattle later this week. Amazon is already courting developers to adopt and make applications for the unique interface used on the smartphone. While little is known of the specifications of the device, the handset will be neck deep in the Amazon ecosystem and will most likely be sold at or near cost similar to the company’s tablet offerings. Samsung reportedly working on a foldable tablet that will launch next year

Samsung is reportedly developing a foldable tablet that allegedly be launched in 2015. The tablet can be folded twice to turn into a size of a smartphone, according a report from a Korean Media. Samsung also showcased a bendable tablet at the Mobile World Congress, and back in 2012, Samsung filed for a patent which tells us about a potential foldable tablet.

ZTE to roll out six smartphones including 4G handsets in India in 2014

ZTE has announced its plans to expand operations in India by launching six new smartphones this year. The Chinese telecom maker made its debut in India last year in July by launching smartphones and 3G data cards.

Amazon 3D smartphone’s face sensing technology reportedly powered by Okao Vision

Amazon is expected to launch its 3D smartphone on June 18th and more details about the phone are now surfacing. According to a TechCrunch report, face sensing technology in the 3D smartphone will be powered by Omron’s Okao Vision technology.

Motorola Mobility to shut down Texas smartphone factory

Motorola Mobility will shut down its smartphone factory at Fort Worth, Texas by the end of this year. According to the Wall Street Journal, the plant which was opened in May 2013 had 3,800 workers, which has now reduced to 700 employees. The factory primarily assembled the Moto X, Motorola’s high-end smartphone.

Google reportedly working on 3D tablet with advanced vision under ‘Project Tango’

Google is reportedly working on tablet that boasts of advanced vision capabilities that can take precise 3D images of objects, according a latest report from the Wall Street Journal. As per the sources, the 7 inch tablet is based on technology developed within Project Tango which is supervised by Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects group.

Google files patent for laptop with built-in smartphone dock

Google had filed a patent for a laptop with built in smartphone device in 2012. According to reports, US patent 8,649,821 has been approved in February this year that shows a smartphone that can be detachable from a laptop. The patent do not mention anything specifically, but we may soon be seeing a laptop in the market that runs on Chrome OS which can work with an Android smartphone. Smartphone’s data connection can be used to access the internet on the laptop on the go. However, major smartphones support WiFi hotspot feature for this use. Worldwide smartphone sales hit 267 million in Q1 2014: Trend Force

Emerging markets and China have resulted in an uptake in global smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2014, according to a latest report from Trend Force. The market research firm says that smartphone shipment worldwide hit 266.9 million units and improved by 1.13% in the first quarter of 2014.
